I like that phrase. It basically means you have to practice what you preach.
So, with that in mind, I reluctantly put my name down for this months 3k handicap run at work! I'd not done that for 3 years, mainly because I'm an endurance runner used to running for hours and not flat out for a few minutes! Oh and the first half is uphill and it hurts - like your lungs are on fire. Fun eh!
But I can hardly encourage the kids to do it if I shy away can I?! So, I had words with myself and waited for my turn to start. I wasn't hopeful, I was starting near the back, off my 3 year old time when I did it alot. Anyway to cut a long run short, I blatted round with the fastest time of the day and a new personal best by 18 seconds! Yes it hurt, yes I can still feel it in my lungs, but a great sense of satisfaction.
With only two months to go, I'm not going to make any impression on the overall standings. It's worth noting though, that the lady leading the competition, is one of the slower but steadily improving runners.
So, regardless whether your son is a greyhound or a dachshund, they still have something to strive for.
Roll on round 3 on Saturday. I hear some boys are dragging their dads out for secret training....
