I like that phrase. It basically means you have to practice what you preach.
So, with that in mind, I reluctantly put my name down for this months 3k handicap run at work! I'd not done that for 3 years, mainly because I'm an endurance runner used to running for hours and not flat out for a few minutes! Oh and the first half is uphill and it hurts - like your lungs are on fire. Fun eh!
But I can hardly encourage the kids to do it if I shy away can I?! So, I had words with myself and waited for my turn to start. I wasn't hopeful, I was starting near the back, off my 3 year old time when I did it alot. Anyway to cut a long run short, I blatted round with the fastest time of the day and a new personal best by 18 seconds! Yes it hurt, yes I can still feel it in my lungs, but a great sense of satisfaction.
With only two months to go, I'm not going to make any impression on the overall standings. It's worth noting though, that the lady leading the competition, is one of the slower but steadily improving runners.
So, regardless whether your son is a greyhound or a dachshund, they still have something to strive for.
Roll on round 3 on Saturday. I hear some boys are dragging their dads out for secret training....

Burn v Blaze U11's
We played Blaze U11's on Weds night (3rd Oct). Now, Blaze are a year older, bigger and play 11 a-side every week, so you'd expect them to win........erm and they did! I don't think anyone knew what the final score was but probabily around the 9-1 area.
We did our usual trick of starting a bit slow and helped the scoreline along with about 3 own goals. We've scored more goals in our own net this season than everyone elses.
Having said all that, we played pretty well considering. We held them off for long periods at a time and had a few near misses ourselves. Well done top Ben who opened his Burn account with his first goal.
Diccon then ran a penalty shoot out competition Burn v Blaze with a luminous ball. (It was dark by then). We had more success with that game winning 7-5 I think, but who's counting. ;-) Sam was awesome in goal again.
It was a good evening and the last at BSG. We are planning to play evenings at John Bentley in the near future as soon as we have completed arrangements. It'll be Thursday nights at 6pm hopefully.

Weds 3rd will be the last evening training at BSG.
We are arranging with John Bentley to use the tennis courts on Thursday evenings. More on that once it's sorted.

Weds 3rd October - 11 aside match against U11's
Hi all
Just a reminder that on Weds evening at 6pm will will be playing the U11's in an 11 aside friendly.
They now play that format in the league, but for us it will be our first.
The nights have pulled in very fast so bring a torch so we can floodlight the pitch!! ;-)
See you there.

Burn news in a Blog
Alan's been fiddling in his office again and has provided us with this neat little new function.
Click on the orange RSS feed icon and you'll receive the message on your desktop when something new appears. That's the theory anyway.
I'll post match reports here, training news and gossip from the bench, so you can keep in touch with what's happening with the team.
